Companion banners and bandwidth detection in HTML5 Pulse SDK

Companion Banners in HTML5 Pulse SDK

From version 2.1.16.22.0, the HTML5 Pulse SDK supports companion banners. Companion banners are non-linear ads shown in an area outside of the player in combination with any linear ad being shown in the player.

Companion banners are also available in ad players and plugins which are derived directly or indirectly from the HTML5 Pulse SDK:
  • HTML5 Ad Player
  • JW7 HTML5 Plugin
  • VideoJS HTML5 Plugin
  • Brightcove Player HTML5 Plugin

Companion banners must be available in your Pulse account and the correct zones must be set up for this functionality to work. No other configurations need to be added to your integration.

Bandwidth Detection in HTML5 Pulse SDK

From version 2.1.16.22.1, the HTML5 Pulse SDK detects bandwidth from the viewer's connection and automatically selects the most appropriate media files to display for the requested ads.

This new functionality ensures higher fill-rates, because less timeouts occur due to large media files for ads, even when no maximum bitrate was supplied during the ad request.

This functionality is also available in ad players and plugins which are derived directly or indirectly from the HTML5 Pulse SDK:
  • HTML5 Ad Player
  • JW7 HTML5 Plugin
  • VideoJS HTML5 Plugin
  • Brightcove Player HTML5 Plugin
